           Starting Wednesday, August 20, through November 19, the video will be viewed for ten minutes, with discussion following.  We’ll continue to start our sessions with singing and end with prayer.

Our program will be presented by Mary Candace Mize, wife of Bob Mize, who grew up in Sombra Del Monte.  Mary Candace is a retired school teacher.

She’ll speak to us about her experiences while working in South America, along the Amazon River.

2008 CCSW MEN’S RETREAT

Sept. 19-21, Lake Brownwood, TX

“Why Me, Lord?” is the theme of this year’s Christian  Church in the Southwest Retreat.  Highlights of the program include:  preaching, teaching, singing, recreation, worship, eating, relaxation, fellowship with other men, and special offerings.

POLL OFFICIALS NEEDED

 

The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office, Bureau of Elections, is actively recruiting Poll Officials for the General Election to be held on Nov. 4, 2008.

Training classes will be provided, and are mandatory.  There will be a selection of training times from which to choose, and each will last approximately 2—3 hours.  Poll Officials are compensated for their Election Day work as well as Training Time.

The Election Day work schedule is 6 AM to 9 PM.  Please be prepared to attend the entire day.

Poll Official Requirements:

Must be a registered voter in Bernalillo County

Must have no felony convictions

Cannot be a relative of a candidate

Cannot be an active law enforcement officer

NEWS OF THE CONGREGATION….

 

Lenore Stober (frequent Sombra visitor) suffered a minor stroke last week.  She’ll be going to Dallas for further testing on Aug. 21.

 

Marty Rost will have surgery on his other hand on Tuesday, August 26.

 

Chuck Deniston has a herniated disk and will get treatment on Tues., Aug. 19.

Also, Kay Deniston’s father (96 years old) had knee surgery last week and is doing great!

 

Update on Patsy Miller (co-manager of Black River Center for Learning):  Patsy is over her radiation treatments for pancreatic cancer, but is starting up a second term of chemo.  She has good days and bad, and does suffer from depression.  Please continue to keep her—and husband, Bill, in your prayers.
